Sibutramine hydrochloride was synthesized from 4-chlorophenylacetonitrile by reactions of cycloalkylation, Grignard reaction, reduction, Eschweiler-Clarke methylation and salifying in 41.9% overall yield. The synthetic conditions of reaction were improved and optimized. The product was characterized by mp, IR, elemental analysis and 1HNMR.
