A fermentation trial was conducted and three fistulated young bulls were used to evaluate the effects of a lactic-acid-producing(Lactobac+ Lactobacillus bulgarius+ Pediococuus cerevisiae+ Str. Faecium + Lactobac acid philus) inoculant, an enzyme preparation (cellulose enzyme+amylase+glucoarmylase) and liquid ferment treatment(probiotics)on silage fermentation, composition, and ruminal degradation when they were applied alone or combined. Results indicated that the content of NDF in groups treated with solid ferment (lactic-acid-producing 20 g+cellulose enzyme 100 g+amylase 300 g+glucoarmylase 300 g/t corn straw) and liquid ferment(efficient microorganism 500 mL/t corn straw)(both added at high levels)was slightly lower than that in control group(P<0.05).Analysis of variance of the degradation parameters of DM and NDF generated by a nonlinear regression model indicated that the treatments of corm straw with solid ferment and liquid ferment(both added at high levels)increased quickly degradable DM and NDF fractions(P<0.05),reduced slowly degradable DM and NDF fractions significantly(P<0.01).The liquid ferment also resulted in higher rates of ruminal DM, NDF degradation as compared with control and other treatments(P<0.05).The biological mechanisms associated with the beneficial results of liquid ferment addition are not understood yet.
