Based on the accurate expression of light intensity at transverse plane,the propagation characteristics of monochromatic planar wave diffracted by small circular aperture are analyzed in this paper.The beam width defined by the second order moment of the light intensity follows a general hyperbolic propagation law.The results also show that M 2 factor of the diffracted beam is smaller than unity when the radius of the small circular aperture is smaller than 0.17 times of the wavelength.
