摘要
郭秉文的《中国教育制度沿革史》是现代中国第一本教育制度通史。该书以美国实用主义教育学说为理论基础,运用西方教育学术范式对中国的现实问题开展研究,力求中西结合,经世致用,建构了现代中国实用主义教育学术范式。作为20世纪初期世界教育研究重镇哥伦比亚大学师范学院第一位中国留学生撰写通过的教育学博士论文,《中国教育制度沿革史》的写作模式成为此后同门蒋梦麟、胡适、陶行知等人撰写博士论文参考借鉴的样板。该书及作者的其他早期相关论著建立了现代中国实用主义教育学术范式,实际开启了中国教育学转向美国实用主义教育学术范式的进程,影响了一代中国学者。
Guo Bingwen's The Chinese System of Public Education is the first educational system his-tory in China. Guo used pragmatist educational theory as the theoretical foundation, and applied the west- ern educational research paradigm to the research of realistic issues in China. He made great effort in in- tegrating Chinese and western theories and paying close attention to the realistic problem in China, and constructed the pragmatist educational research paradigm in China. As an approved doctoral dissertation in the field of education written by the first Chinese student at Teachers College of Columbia University, an important institution for educational research in the world in early 20th century, The Chinese System of Public Education became a writing sample for other Chinese students such as Jiang Menglin, Hu Shi and Tao Xingzhi in drafting their doctoral dissertation. This book and other related works established pragma- tist educational research paradigm in China, which actually started the shift to American pragmatist educa- tional paradigm and influenced a generation of Chinese scholars.
