Objective To investigate the effect of different feeding patterns on infant physical and intelligence development .Methods According to feeding patterns in the first 6 months, 284 infants receiving required physical examination during the period of 2010 to 2013 with complete data in Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital of Conghua City were divided into breast feeding group and mixed feeding group.Retrospective study was conducted on infants ’ length, weight and head circumference at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of age and on their intelligence development at 6 and 12 months of age .Results The length and weight of the breast feeding group was higher than that of mixed feeding group in the first 6 months (tlength value was 4.25, 2.20 and 3.801, respectively and tweight value was 2.76, 2.54 and 3.54, respectively at 1, 3 and 6 month, all P〈0.05), but there was no significant difference in length and weight after 6 months (tlength value was 0.58 and 1.40 and tweight value was 0.61 and 1.83, respectively at 9 and 12 month, all P〉0.05).The head circumference and development quotient were not significantly different between two groups within 1 year (t value ranged 0.04 -1.68, both P〉0.05). Conclusion Although infant formula is close to breast milk to great extent , breast milk has irreplaceable advantages such as rich nutrient , economic and health, and easy carrying and thus it is the best natural food for infants within 6 months.
