Objective: To explore the role of Notch family proteins in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. Methods: The patholog- ical specimens from 58 psoriatic patients and 28 individuals with epidermal nevus were collected. Immunohistochemical staining method was used to detect the localization and the expression of Notch signal receptors and ligands(Notch1-4, DLL1, 3, 4, and Jagged1, 2). Results: ① Compared with the control group, the expression levels of epidermal notch(1, 2, 3, 4), Jagged(1, 2) and DLL(1, 3, 4) in the psoriatic patients were significantly elevated(P〈0.05). ② The expression levels of notch(1, 2, 3, 4), Jagged1 and DLL(1, 3) were also significantly increased in the dermis of psoriatic patients in comparison with controls(P〈0.05). ③ The differences of expression levels of dermal DLIA and Jagged2 were not significant between pso- riatic patients and control group(P〉0.05). Conclusions: The expression levels of notch(1, 2, 3, 4), Jagged(1, 2) and DLL (1, 3, 4) were enhanced in the lesions of psoriatic patients. Notch family proteins may be involved in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.
