摘要
语言的间接性在人际交往中起着重要作用,是语用学研究的重要内容。英语委婉语是一种常见的修辞格,是人们出于避讳、幽默、礼貌等原因而采取的婉转、间接的表达方式,间接性是其主要特点之一。英语委婉语有词汇、修辞、语法等多种构成手段,正是这些手段使其语言间接性得以体现。
Indirectness is a general character of human language. It is a roundabout phenomenon in language application.Language indirectness is the major studying content of pragmatics and it plays an important role in the process of human interaction. English euphemism is a widely-used figure of speech, which often refers to a mild or indirect expressing way for taboo, humor, politeness, and so forth. Indirectness is one of the major features of euphemism.There are kinds of means to constitute English euphemism, such as vocabulary, figures of speech, etc., from which its language indirectness is clearly indicated.
