Objective To compare the efficacy of absorbable screws and metal screws in the treatment of ankle fractures and the impact on ankle joint function. Methods A total of 90 patients with ankle fractures were enrolled, which included 48 males and42 females, aged 18- 60 years old with mean age of 32.45 years old. All of them were randomly divided into observation group(n =45) and control group(n = 45). The observation group was treated with absorbable screw fixation and control group was given metal screw fixation. The efficacy, postoperative ankle joint function and incidence of complications in 2 groups were observed. Results The total effective rate in observation group was 95.56 % and that in control group was 91.11 %, the differences were no statistical significances(χ2= 0.179, P〈0.05). The ankle function scores, the pain score, range of motion score and total score in observation group were all significantly higher than those in control group(P〈0.01); The ankle stability, walking ability, running ability and Xray measurements were no statistically significant differences between 2 groups(P〈0.05). The incidence of complication was 6.67 %in observation group which was significantly lower than 26.67 % in control group(χ2= 5.120, P〈0.05). Conclusion It is demonstrated that efficacy of absorbable screws in the treatment of ankle fractures is proved with histocompatibility and low complication, which could avoid the secondary surgery and reduce the burden on patients.
