Objective: To observe the clinical effects of Compound Sodium Aescinate Gel on swelling and pain due to senile limb fracture. Methods: 60 cases were randomized into treatment group and control group, with 30 cases in each group. Control group were given manual reduction under local anesthesia and given functional training simultaneously while treatment group were added with Compound Sodium Aescinate Gel. In the two groups, the TCM symptom scores, the bone mineral density of callus after 4weeks and 12 weeks as well as the swelling area before the treatment on the 3rd day and 14 th days of the treatment were compared. Results: After 4 weeks of the treatment for both groups, the tenderness, pain, swelling, functional disorder and ecchymosis score were marked lower than these before treatment, and the scores in treatment group were lower than control group; the difference had statistical significance( P 〈0. 05). After 4 weeks and 12 weeks of treatment, the bone mineral density of callus in both groups gradually increased, and that in treatment group were significantly higher than that in control group; the difference had statistical significance( P 〈0. 05). On the 3rd day and 14 th day of the treatment, the swelling area in treatment group were obviously smaller than that in control group( P 〈0. 05). The difference of the effective rates between the two groups had statistical significance( P 〈0. 05). Conclusion: Compound Sodium Aescinate Gel has good relieving effects on the swelling and pain due to senile limb fracture.
