With the native shamanic skills acquired from the fieldwork in South America and the shamanic materials collected from different parts of the world, Michael Harner, an American anthropologist, in his cross-cultural studies, created the shamanic system of theory and technique ( known as "core shamanism" ) for medical treatment and health care suitable for the West. His efforts have drawn great attention from scholars and people in the West after his work The Way of the Shaman went public, which would also provoke thinking and lay a new orientation for the shamanism study in China. This paper introduces Harner' s " core shamanism" together with its feedback and comments in academic circle.
