The relations between economic growth and carbon emissions is more and more complicated because the effect of trade openness, based on economic globalization and regional economic integration, as a result, we need a global econometric model to study the relationship of them. From this point, this paper constructs a GVAR model containing 33 countries and five variables from the perspective of the open macroeconomic system, and researches the dynamic relationship among trade openness and economic growth and emission in China based on quarterly data from 1980 to 2010. The following conclusions through the empirical analysis: firstly, there are existence of the same development trend and long-run equilibrium relationship among the three variables; secondly, CO2 Emission response to the GDP Shocks in China becomes weak with trade openness increasing, and does not have a inverted U-shaped feature; thirdly carbon dioxide emissions is increasing due to trade openness in China. Lastly, the effect of oil price on carbon dioxide emissions in China is very important in the long term. The conclusion of this paper shows that it is important to choose an appropriate method to test the EKC hypothesis. Expanding trade openness and market-oriented of energy factor price have a key role to reduce carbon dioxide emissions for the developing countries.
