The paper describes the principles of several mechanical drillings, elucidates some confusing terms used in the rock drilling machinery sector such as percussive top hammer drilling, DTH drill, driving head, jumbo, drill wagon, and so on. It also standardizes and compiles the designations of common drilling machinery. These facilitate the technical exchange in the sector.
