Objective It is to observe the expression of vascular endothelium growth factor (VEGF) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) , and investigate the relationships of VEGF with the clinical pathological features, in order to provide the theory for treats NPC. Methods 85 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues section of patients with complete clinical data and 40 cases of normal nasopharyngeal tissues section were collected and the expression of VEGF in them were detected by immunohisto-chemistry (SP) method. The relationship of VEGF expression with the clinical pathological features included age, sex, TNM stage and recurrence in NPC tissue were analyzed. Results The positive expression of VEGF in NPC was observed mainly in cytoplasm of cells. There were 72 cases (85%) of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and 3 cases (8%) of normal tissues with positive express of VEGF, the positive expression rate of VEGF in NPC tissues was significantly higher than that in normal nasopharyngeal tissues (P 〈 0.05). There were no significant difference in the positive expression of VEGF in NPC tissue between different age and sex ( all P 〉 0.05) , but were significant difference between different TNM stages and recurrence state (all P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion The positive expression rate of VEGF in NPC tissue is higher, and it has relationship with TNM stage and recurrence. The detection of VEGF expression can provide a theoretical basis for the diagnosis and treatment of NPC.
