Human immunodeficiency virus( HIV) and hepatitis C virus( HCV) have the same routes of transmission, including blood transmission, sexual transmission and mother-to-child transmission,so the risk of HIV/HCV co-infection is increasing.Meanwhile, there are no effective vaccines to prevent the two viruses.Globally,it is reported that among the people living with HIV and AIDS there are 25% ~ 33% individuals infected with HCV at the same time. After infected with HIV the risk of HCV infection through sexual transmission is increasing;furthermore, after infected with HIV and HCV the morbidity and the mortality of liver diseases are increasing.Therefore,HIV/HCV-co-infection has become one of the hottest topics in the fields of AIDS.This article describes the research progress of HIV/HCV-co-infection and the interactions between the two viruses.
