Objective To investigate the in vitro antifungal effect of Polygonum granules and fluconazole against Candida albicans. Methods A microdilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of Polygonum granules against 13 clinical Candida albicans strains. The combined effect of Polygonum granules and fluconazole was assessed by the fractional inhibitory concentration index(FICI) with checkerboard microdilution method. Results The average MIC was 74.67 mg / ml of Polygonum granules alone against susceptible strains, and that was237.71 mg / ml against resistant ones. The average FICI was 0.81 against susceptible strains, and that was 0.35 against resistant ones. Conclusion Polygonum granules had certain antifungal activity. It acts additive or no interaction with fluconazole against susceptible Candida albicans, and synergistically against resistant strains.
