Objective To evaluate the efficacy of red light assisting treatment in wound healing using meta analysis. Methods The published clinical data about red light assisting treatment on wound healing from Dec.2004 to Dec. 2014 were extracted from the databases including Cochrane database,Pub Med,EMBASE,CBM,Wanfang,CNKI and VIP database. Meta analysis was performed using the Revman 5. 3. Dichotomous and continuous data were accessed using relative risk( RR) and standardized mean difference( SMD),respectively. Results According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,17 studies and 1389 patients were included in this meta analysis. The result of meta analysis on the effective rate of wound healing indicated that the red light assisting treatment showed a significantly higher performance than the conventional therapy method[RR = 1. 21( 95% CI,1. 14- 1. 27) ]. The result of meta analysis on healing time showed that the wound healing time in the red light group was obviously shorter than that in the conventional therapy group[SMD =- 2. 66,95% CI(- 3. 49,- 1. 83) ]. Conclusion Our study provided an important evidence for the application of red light irradiation therapy in clinic. The quality evaluation of the studies included in this paper suggested that the clinical study about the efficacy of red light assisting treatment in wound healing should be improved and performed at higher standards.
