摘要
本研究采用语料库对比分析方法,考察了中国理工科硕士和英语本族语理工科硕士论文英文摘要中外壳名词及其词汇—语法构式的异同。研究结果表明:外壳名词在科技类学术语篇中显现出独特的文体特征;中外理工科硕士生在外壳名词及其词汇—语法构式的使用频率方面未表现出显著差异;中国理工科硕士生在词汇的语义选择上缺乏多样性;外壳名词通过回指和后指在摘要写作中发挥语篇衔接功能;中外理工科硕士生均倾向于高频使用知识性立场标记,较少使用态度性立场标记。
By adopting the corpus-based approach,this study compares the use of shell nouns and their lexicogrammatical patterns in the MS / ME thesis abstracts by Chinese-speaking science and engineering majors( CSEMs)and English-speaking science and engineering majors( ESEMs). The results indicate that shell nouns in academic written English for science and technology bear some distinctive stylistic features. There is no salient difference in the overall frequency of shell nouns and the frequency distribution of lexico-grammatical patterns between the two groups of writers. Lack of diversity is observed in CSEMs' choice of semantic categories of shell nouns. The cohesive function of shell nouns in abstract writing is performed by anaphoric and cataphoric references. While both groups of writers most frequently use epistemic stance markers in their writing,they show little preference for attitudinal stance markers.
