Japanese Slavic Eurasian Studies stemmed from the needs of war. Through the ups and downs since the Second World War, it has ultimately formed a significant force in Japanese regional studies, symbolized by the establishment of the Slavic Research Center at Hokkaido University as a "national common facility". Based on creating "Slavic Eurasian studies" as the discipline base and under the theoretical framework of re-interpretation of the "Empire theory", this center has emerged as pivotal team within the international Slavic research communities. In the discipline development, Japanese scholars make all efforts to construct and improve their discipline system through important projects. They prefer to combining academic researches and policy studies, focusing on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary comparative studies, and emphasizing studies on small regional countries. Their topics are concrete and micro. Through fieldwork and international, multi-lingual comprehensive studies, they focus on long-term accumulation of data and materials. As a result, the author attempts to summarize the above characteristics as Japanese paradigm in Slavic Eurasian studies, hoping to draw beneficial references for Slavic Eurasian studies in China or even the whole world.
