摘要
本文从认知-语用视角探讨英语祈使性条件构式的言者意图及其动因。这种构式由and或or连接而成,表达特殊条件关系,包括祈使分句和陈述分句两个构成成分,两者互补互动,构成一个不可分割的语用加工单位。祈使性条件构式可以表达禁止性、诱使性和提示性三种言者意图。禁止性意图是说话人运用祈使性条件构式命令、要求听话人不要实施祈使分句所述行为的意图;诱使性意图为说话人运用祈使性条件构式诱导或迫使听话人实施祈使分句所述行为的意图;提示性意图是说话人运用祈使性条件构式提醒、建议听话人实施祈使分句所述行为的意图。促动这些言者意图的动因包括构式语境、祈使分句与陈述分句的条件关系、祈使分句的指令性言语行为功能、陈述分句的语用充实功能以及祈使分句与陈述分句的互补互动作用,其中,构式语境为总体动因,余为具体动因。
This article attempts to investigate,from a cognitive-pragmatic approach,speaker intentions and their motivations in using the imperative-conditional construction(ICC)in English.An ICC in English is a construction with an imperative clause(IC)and a declarative clause(DC)connected by AND or OR.Its two components should be taken together as a single pragmatic processing unit due to their complementary and interactive nature.ICCs can express three types of speaker intention:prohibitive,inducing or forcing,and suggestive.The first refers to the intention to prohibit the hearer(H)from carrying out the act described by IC.The second is the intention to induce or force H to carry out the mentioned act.The third refers to the intention to suggest that H carry out the said act.The intentions are highly motivated.Their motivations include the constructional context,the conditional relation between IC and DC,the directive force of IC,the pragmatic enrichment of DC,and the complementary interaction between IC and DC,of which the constructional context serves as the overall motivation,and the others are more specific.
