摘要
威廉·冯·洪堡诞辰250周年纪念在即,盘点其教育遗产,首推其"修身"理想,而非广为全球追捧并复制的柏林大学。作者追溯洪堡的"修身"理想之道统,进而展现洪堡为落实其"修身"理想而擘画的教育改革蓝图,并分析理想从蓝图中剥离之后所遭遇的窘境,最后以德国当今大学开设通识教育为例,剖析洪堡的"修身"理想重获新生的尝试。作者发现,洪堡的"修身"即为中国士阶层所遵循的"大学之道",其使命在于,由"以文化人"而"止于至善"。"至善"实为愿景,故而,洪堡的"修身"及"大学之道"永远在路上,洪堡的"修身"理想之生命力就潜隐于人的可持续发展性之中。
In commemoration of the 250~ anniversary of his birth, the educational inheritances of Wilhelm von Humboldt are systematically reviewed, among which the Ideal of Bildung rather than the highly-regarded conception of University of Berlin is the most precious one. The paper argues that the Ideal of Bildung, which could be traced back to Ancient Greek Orthodoxy, was incorporated into the blueprint for educational reform by Wilhelm yon Humboldt. When the Ideal was split from the educational reform blueprint, Humboldt was faced with a dilemma. Taking the Liberal Education in current German higher education for instance, the paper analyzes an attempt to revitalize the Ideal of Bildung. Besides, the paper reveals high similarity between the Ideal of Bildung and the Way of Self-Cultivation proposed by Saints and Sages in Ancient China, whose mission lies in Striving for Perfection throughout the Path of Cultivation by humanistic study. Striving for Perfection is de facto the vision, hence, the Ideal of Bildung and the Way of Self-Cultivation proposed by Saints and Sages in Ancient China are ever-lasting process. Therefore, the vitality of the Ideal of Bildung has being precisely hidden behind the sustainability of individual as well.
