The operational characteristics of China commercial paper market in 2016 are as follows： the commercial paper rates pulled back several times from earlier surges at the beginning of the year, followed by a slide down at mid-year and a strong rebound at year end; the balance of bankers＇ acceptances fell slightly while the balance of paper discounts registered a significant increase and the total trading volume dropped after a spike; the electronic commercial paper business maintained a rapid growth with a significant increase in its market proportion. Looking into the 2017, the commercial paper rate is likely to be higher than that of 2016, and the volatility may be higher at the same time; the establishment of the commercial paper exchange may open up new roads for the transition and innovation of the commercial paper business.
