[Objective]To evaluate the iodine nutrition level of pregnant women in Shenzhen City by detecting the urinary iodine, provide basis for scientific iodine supplement and control of iodine deficiency disorders. [Methods]1 sub-district was respectively sampled from the direction of east, west, north, south and middle of each district(all sub-districts were enrolled in the study when there were 4 or less sub-districts in the district),and 20 pregnant women were collected from each sub-district(not less than 100 samples in each district),to detect urinary iodine and calculate the median. [Results]Totally 600 urine samples of pregnant women were collected, the median of urinary iodine was 154.3 μg/L,and the inter-quartile range was 89.5-248.4 μg/L. There were290 samples with the urinary iodine less than 150 μg/L,accounting for 48.4%,161 samples with the urinary iodine of 150-249 μg/L,accounting for 26.8%,98 samples with the urinary iodine of 250-500 μg/L,accounting for 16.3%,and 51 samples with the urinary iodine more than 500 μg/L,accounting for 8.5%. The difference in level of urinary iodine of pregnant women was not statistically significant among different districts, and the difference in level of urinary iodine was not statistically significant among pregnant women in different stage. [Conclusion]The iodine nutrition of pregnant women is appropriate in Shenzhen City. However, the median of urinary iodine is less than 500 μg/L in two districts, which indicates there is mild iodine deficiency. It is necessary to provide edible salt which contains higher level of iodine for pregnant women.
