In 2016, Yangzhou Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted rescue excavation to some burials of the late Tang through the Song Dynasty at Qiushi Road in Yangzhou. The M5 and M9 of these burials were in better statuses, both of which were vertical earthen shaft pit burials with wooden coffins and sumeru pedestal-shaped biers. From M5, land contract, dugong ban (tablet of the inspector of merits) and other wooden objects, pottery wares, bronzes and silver wares were unearthed; from M9, lacquered wooden wares were unearthed. The date of M5 was the Five-Dynasties Period, and its occupant was Kang Zhou, a native of Chang'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty, and an administrator of the Tianshi Duo (Way of the Celestial Masters, a sect of the Taoism). The date of M9 was the Northern Song Dynasty.
