The market situation of winter cropping potato in South China has a great influence on the potato market situation for the whole year. Through spot investigation, production and market characteristics of winter cropping potato in South China in the beginning of 2017 has been summarized, including area reduction, the difficult selling of potato, high price, detailed classification and obvious differences. All the problems such as high production cost, squeezed market space, frequent occurrence of diseases, and the cause of problems have been analyzed. Lastly, some countermeasures and suggestions were proposed, such as strengthening market expanding at home and abroad, intensifying the spreading of small applicable machinery, improving the supply capacity of high quality seed potato, increasing the controlling capability of disease, expanding policy-related insurance on potato natural disasters and so on.
