Writing across the Curriculum Movement, which views writing itself as a means of learning, is based on the theoretical principles of "writing to learn" and "learning to write". By providing students with the opportunities to practice various forms of writing in various contexts, it intends to cultivate their ability to construct disciplinary knowledge and communicate professionally. Writing across the Curriculum Movement is mainly implemented in disciplines such as history, science, mathematics and sociology; it breaks a- part the teacher-lecturing mode of the traditional university classroom and has significant implications on the teaching of English aca- demic writing in Chinese universities.
