In order to know the water conservation function of forest litter in the nature reserve of Nangan, the hydrological function of litter layer was studied by using 9 different types of forest stand as the object. The results showed that:( 1) Under different forest types, the average litter layer with thickness was 1. 15-4. 57 cm,and the litter amount was 1. 13-11. 36 t/hm^2,among which the maximum amount of litter accumulation was Cunninghamia lanceolata forest and the smallest was Populus forest;( 2) Litter maximum water holding rate was 336. 46% -460. 45% ,deciduous broad-leaved forest was maximum and Populus forest was minimum; The maximum water holding capacity was 3. 817 9-21. 405 3 t/hm^2,the maximum water holding capacity of Cunninghamia lanceolata,Populus( 3. 817 9 t/hm^2) minimum.( 3) The litter water holding capacity of 9 different forest types increased with the soaking time, the water holding capacity of UN decomposed and semi decomposed layers reached saturation at 12 h and 1. 5 h,respectively. And the water absorption rate increases with the immersion time decreases, the maximum rate in the 5 min, while the undecomposed and semi decomposed layer water holding rate close to zero after 12 h and 1. 5 h.
