A Red Duckweed, named Daughters of the Red Land in English version, is one of the representative works of Li Yan, a Chinese-Canadian female writer, who portrays the different fates of women through emotional descriptions and skilled narrative. Based on the space theories of Henri Lefebvre and David Harvey, this article explains the characters' attachment to their hometown in the physical space, elaborates the love imagination in their spiritual space, explores their identities in the social space and analyses the strong female appeals and the awakening of their self-consciousness during that special period of time.
