摘要
《英华词典》是英国伦敦会传教士瓦尔特·亨利·麦都思于1847年出版发行的一本英汉双语词典。在马礼逊《英华字典》的基础上,麦都思增加了大量汉语文献中的词汇以及日常使用频率较高的口语词,并创造性地以短语作为词条的例证,极大地提高了汉语学习者的效率,促进了英汉词典编纂的发展。同时,该词典也存在没有注明编撰体例和词性、少数译文有误、词条收录标准不一等不足之处,给使用者造成了一定的阅读障碍,值得改进。
The English and Chinese Dictionary is a bilingual dictionary which published by missionary called Medhurst in 1847. On the basis of other bilingual dictionaries,Medhurst added a large number of literary words and spoken words in the dictionary. Moreover,he creatively used the phrases as examples to improve the efficiency of Chinese learners and promote the development of dictionary's compilation. However,there are still some shortcomings such as the error of a few translations,the indistinct standards and so on,which cause some barriers for readers,and it is worth improving.
