Objective To investigate the effect of mild-warmmoxibustion in treatment of the puncture site leakage after peripherally inserted central catheterization( PICC). Methods To tally 60 patients suffering puncture site leakage after PICC were assigned into the treatment group and the control group, with 30 cases in each group. Patients in both two groups received pressure bandaging with sterile gauze and fixation with 3 Mtransparent dressing on the puncture site, and those in the treatment group were given mild-warmmoxibustion. The time to leakage remission, incidence of catheter-related complications, catheter maintenance costs and satisfactory degree of family members on nursing service were observed and compared between two groups. Results Patients of the treatment group had a shorter time to leakage remission and lower catheter maintenance costs compared with those in the control group( P〈0. 01). The satisfactory rate on nursing service was higher in the treatment group than that of controls( P〈0. 01). There was nosignificant difference in catheter-related complication between two groups( P〈0. 05). Conclusion The mild-warmmoxibustion is potentially effective to relieve the puncture site leakage after PICC.
