Girl, Interrupted, a memoir published by the American author Susanna Kaysen in 1993, was about what she experienced and witnessed as a patient diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in the famous American psychiatric hospital Mclean in 1960 s. The memoir is also a piece of trauma writing and unveils the deviant insane stories of the marginalized people and their past psychic reality in Mclean and also Kaysen's critical reflection on herself, the others and the society. By analyzing the work's stylistic features and its social, historical and cultural context, it could be found that behind the trauma writing lies Kaysen's rational reflection and exploration on the meaning of freedom.
