This paper uses metaphor and cognitive linguistic theories to reveal the common psychological and cognitive patterns of human beings hidden behind the phenomenon of semantic shift by comparing the semantic domains of Chinese“head”and English“head”and using reciprocal translation.Because of the universality of human cognitive processes, words with the same basic meaning have their own patterns of semantic shift in different languages, and there must be a link between specific source domains and abstract target domains. This connection is the basis and premise of the shift in the semantic field.Of course, there are some small differences between different languages in the field of transfer. These differences are often caused by cultural and psychological differences.English and Chinese share most of the metaphorical projections of the“head”,while a small part of the projections are unique to both English and Chinese.
