BASF has developed an innovative formulation of the fungicidal active substance pyra- clostrobin for use in rice, designed to provide a significant reduction in the potential impact of this substance to aquatic organisms. This was achieved by designing a special CS -formulation (Selti- ma) , which combines very fast delivery of the active ingredient on the plant with stability of the capsules in water, where standard encapsulated formulations would normally only achieve one or the other. With this dual characteristics, the new formulation, Seltima, provides superior fungicidal efficacy and plant health benefits (increased grain yield and quality by its positive physiological effects), while at the same time significantly reducing toxicity to aquatic organisms. To prove the safe use of this particular CS formulation in paddy rice, BASF has conducted a series of studies be- yond standard regulatory requirements, starting from aquatic laboratory studies to semi -field and field monitoring studies
