Robert Burns, a Scottish national poet, not only eulogized love and nature, but also lovedhis country. As a patriot, he used poems to cherish former anti-England martyrs and to encourage laterpatriots. His most famous patriotic poem, Scots Wha Hae, expressed his love for Scotland and yearningfor freedom and democracy. Through a comparative analysis of the two Chinese translations, the twotranslators' principles on poetry translation and the strategies applied are illustrated, aiming to analyzethe historical background’s influence on translators and the approaches to conveying patriotism atdifferent times.
