A review on the application of triphenylmethane basic dyes to the complexation and association colour reactions during the recent decade of 1991～2000 was presented. Special emphases were made on the compositions of the color reaction systems, the reaction mechanism, the photometric characteristics and the analytical behaviors (64 references cited).
