The problem of vigor or spiritedness,as a vital theme in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, runs through the entire plot, and dominates its action.Fundamentally, not only is the international relationship between Denmark and Norway directly influenced by the state of vigor of their rulers respectively but also Hamlet’s medication and action depend on the state of vigor in his soul.According to Shakespeare, the relationship between Denmark and Norway rests with their rulers’pursuit of honor or the passion of self-protection.The issue of Hamlet’s vigor, however,is a result of its problematic combination with the irrationality(seeing ghosts),natural philosophy(cosmopolitanism),and with defective poetry.By showing the importance and complexity of blood in the play,Shakespeare dictates the medication of the relationship between vigor and politics, and even vigor and justice.
