Objective To explore the effect of failure mode and effects analysis(FMEA)in health education on secondary epilepsy after operation for intracranial tumors. Methods From June 2013 to June2018,200 patients who underwent operation for intracranial tumors at Baoji Gaoxin People’s Hospital were selected as the research subjects.According to the digital random table method, they were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group with 100 patients in each group. The observation group received FMEA-guided health education. The control group received routine health education.Patients’knowledge on health after the intervention, incidence of compliance and seizures were compared between the two groups. Results Scores of health knowledge at admission, before the surgery and after the surgery and the overall health knowledge were higher in the observation group than in the control group(all P<0.05).The compliance rate was 83.0%in the observation group which was higher than 60.0%in the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of complications was 16.0%in the observation group, which was lower than36.0%of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion FMEA-guided health education can significantly improve health knowledge and compliance, and reduce the incidence of postoperative epilepsy in patients undergoing surgery for intracranial tumors.
