《佛罗伦萨的神女》:东方与西方文化杂糅的失败

摘要 拉什迪的短篇小说集《东方,西方》挑战了传统的“东方”和“西方”观念,尤其是东西方关于“神圣的观念”,质疑了“各种绝对观念”。《佛罗伦萨的神女》是拉什迪另一部探讨东方和西方关系的小说。小说中,拉什迪除了表达对佛罗伦萨代表西方文艺复兴最高成就这一西方观点的质疑之外,也着重探讨了东方和西方的交流、互动,以及两种文明之间“杂糅混合”的可能性。通过对历史材料的“情节编织”,拉什迪建构了一种契合自己意图的文化杂糅和叙事的空间。通过历史记录中鲜为人知的“黑眼睛公主”,小说将东方和西方联结起来,在作者建构的空间中,探究了两个世界的本质,试图表现“我们如此相似”的东西,实验了文化杂糅的可能性。这种相似性表现在两个世界都有杂糅的努力,但最终都以失败告终。 Rushdie’s collection of short stories East,West,challenged the traditional concepts of“East”and“West”,especially the Eastern and Western concept of“holy”,and questioned“various absolute concepts”.This paper believes that The Enchantress of Florence is another novel by Rushdie that explored the relationship between East and West.In this novel,Rushdie not only expressed doubts about the Western idea that Florence represents the highest peak of Renaissance,but also focused on the possibility of communication and interaction between the East and the West and the“hybridity”between the two civilizations.Rushdie constructed his own space of cultural hybridity and narrative by“emploting”the existing historical facts.He connected the east and the west through the little-known“princess with black eyes”in the historical records,and imagined the history of the two worlds to explore the essence of the two worlds or to find in what way“we are so similar”in his constructed space.This paper believes that this similarity is manifested in the two worlds’efforts to hybridize,but both ended in failure.
