As a characteristic of African culture, oral tradition has been paid more attention by many African writers.Ngugi wa Thiong’o,a Kenyan writer, integrated oral traditions, such as myths, legends, songs and proverbs, into his early trilogy creation, which not only reflected his regional identity as an African writer, but also his resistance strategy to colonialism and even neocolonialism. In his works,Ngugi hopes to recall and apply the oral traditions to evoke the common ethnic memories of Kenyan people, and to establish the historical identity of the nation,so as to unite the people to fight against the rule of the colonists and to reduce the ethnic conflicts and disputes that still exist after Kenya’s independence.
