Since Huangdi Neijing presented the concept of lung governing management and regulation, the ancient and modern medical scientists have been holding different perspectives on the understanding. To sum up the interpretation of the lung governing management and regulation activities,it can be summarized into five different aspects, such as governing management and regulation theory, life rhythm theory, comprehensive functional rhythm theory, physiological order theory and lung-governing arthrosis theory.Combined with the principles and methods of hermeneutics, modern scholars hold that the concept of‘management and regulation’can be understood as normal rhythm. The lung governing management and regulation refers to the regulation of the lung participating in human respiration, heartbeat, pulse and the rhythm of qi fluid circulation in the form of pectoral qi.Modern textbooks interpret the term‘management and regulation’as management and regulation, which is thought to be a high generalization of lung function. That is only a new form in the modern context. As for the expansion of the lung function to the regulation of systemic function, extending it to the circadian rhythm such as being awake or asleep, urination, defecation,or menstruation,or the idea that lung governing management and regulation is supposed to be in order with the human body nature are all the overinterpretation which should be discarded.
