This study aimed to explore the mechanism of the effect of physical activity at home on boredom under the COVID-19 epidemic,in which 517 middle school students were administered the Multidimensional State Boredom Scale(MSBS),Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire(PPQ),and Physical Activity Rating Scale(PARS-3)to examine the mediating effect of psychological capital and the moderating effect of isolation. The results showed that adolescents were significantly more bored under the COVID-19 epidemic than under the normal situation;the boredom of senior students was significantly higher than that of junior students;physical activity had a significant negative predictive effect on boredom, and psychological capital played a mediating role in between;isolation played a moderating role between physical activity and psychological capital, and physical activities at home in isolation had a significant positive predictive effect on adolescents’psychological capital. The results suggest that the COVID-19 epidemic has led to a higher level of boredom in middle school students, especially for senior students.Appropriate sports activities can promote their psychological capital and effectively alleviating their feeling of boredom.
