Zhejiang is one of the earliest sources of silk industry in China and also a major province of silk production in contemporary China. The development of Zhejiang silk industry in ancient times went through rough times, and especially the three great developments of the silk industry in the ancient feudal society(BC 475-AD 1840)laid the rudiment of the contemporary Zhejiang silk industry.Taking the development of ancient Zhejiang silk industry as a clue, this paper sorts out the main characteristics of the three major developments of the silk industry in the Tang dynasty,Song dynasty and Ming dynasty during the ancient feudal society, and objectively analyzes the basic characteristics of the internal conditions of the industrial basic conditions,i.e.,the production technology of silk industry, silk product varieties and silk trade during the three great development periods, and indirectly analyzes the background of the external factors of the industrial development environment,i.e.,nature,society and humanity. It is concluded that the three great developments of Zhejiang silk industry in the ancient feudal society are the inevitable result of the interaction between the internal conditions of the industrial basic conditions and the external factors of the industrial development environment. It can provide useful reference for the development of contemporary silk industry in Zhejiang.
