In recent years, the re-definition and re-exploration of Brutalist architecture has begun to focus on its affect capacity, which is not only consistent with the human-oriented architectural research trend, but also provides a possible solution for the“aphasia”of the built environment in the information age. This study is based on nearly half-a-year field research in the University of California(Irvine)and the University of California(San Diego),with typical brutalist building clusters on the west coast of the United States.Through the affect-oriented environmental behavior theory“Place Attachment”and its related scale,it studies the affect capacity of the buildings’detailed features, and uses SPSS to analyze the data of Place Attachment level collected, positive and negative affect, and their mutual relationship with the detailed features of the above mentioned buildings.Qualitative and quantitative methods are combined to provide a more reasonable and rigorous result.
