摘要
自从1911年泰勒出版《科学管理原理》一书以来,管理是科学还是艺术的争论一直没有平息。管理学研究很难找到一些公理作为自己的研究起点,管理行为的具体场景以及运用,和当时当地的文化有着非常密切深刻的关系。管理是一种文化的积淀和表现,任何社会和组织的管理,既受到该组织所在社会的传统文化影响,又受到当代文化影响。本文作者主持“改变世界——中国杰出企业家管理思想访谈录”研究项目,在访谈的43位企业家管理实践中,运用扎根理论方法,总结出了三个基本价值观和十大管理心法,其中有着很深刻的文化内涵。无论从历史或现实而言,文化都构成了一个组织管理最根本、最广泛和影响最深远的基础。因此,本文试图提出一个“文化基础观”的构想,并就此对管理是科学还是艺术这一困扰管理学100多年发展历史的哲学命题做出探讨。
Since Principles of Scientific Management written by Taylor was published in 1911,the debate about whether management is science or art has never subsided.It is difficult for management research to find some axioms as a starting point for research.The specific scenarios and applications of management behavior have a very close and profound relationship with the local culture at that time.Management is the accumulation and expression of certain kind of culture.The management of any society and organization is not only influenced by the traditional culture of the society where the organization is located,but also by contemporary culture.The author of this article presides over the research project“Changing the World—Interviews on Management Thoughts of Outstanding Entrepreneurs in China”.From the management practices of 43 entrepreneurs interviewed,through grounded theoretical methods,the author summarizes three basic values and ten management mental methods with very deep cultural connotations.In terms of either history or reality,culture constitutes the most fundamental,broadest and most influential foundation of an organization s management.Therefore,this article attempts to put forward a conception of a“cultural foundation”,and discusses whether management is science or art,a philosophical proposition that has plagued the management for more than 100 years.
