Cognitive narratology,a major branch of contemporary western postclassical narratology, focuses on the reception process of narrative works and aims to explore readers’cognition and psychology in the process of narrative comprehension.Studies of cognitive narratology abroad are prosperous.Representative scholars and theories include David Herman and his endeavor to construct“storyworlds”,Monika Fludernik and her natural narratology,Marie-Laure Ryan and her ideas of“possible worlds”and“cognitive maps”and Marisa Bortolussi and Peter Dixon’s psychonarratology.Domestic scholars also throw themselves into the study of cognitive narratology. Not only do they introduce and translate books and papers related to cognitive narratology abroad, but they also study the most influential figures and theories in the field of cognitive narratology abroad.Meanwhile, they try to interpret narrative texts in light of cognitive narratological theories.Based on the literature review of studies on cognitive narratology at home and abroad, the problems can be found in time and measures can be taken as soon as possible.Besides, prospects of cognitive narratology can be estimated.
