Tourism industry,as the top of the"five happiness industries",is playing a vital role in enhancing the well-being of destination residents. In China,"pursuing a better life"is growing into the new goal in the 21 century. As regards of residents’emotional well-being,it might add a new perspective if examining it based on residents’feelings, which is discussed mainly from its economic value in previous research.Also,well-being research in the body of tourism research is an emerging highly debated topic both at home and abroad. Therefore, this study examines the explanatory variables of destination residents’emotional well-being based on residents’emotional solidarity with tourists."Emotional solidarity"refers to an emotional links among individuals or groups because of some common beliefs and feelings. This kind of emotional solidarity is developed between residents and tourists. This study constructs a theoretical model of integrating residents’emotional solidarity and emotional well-being.The three dimensions of emotional solidarity were considered in the study:welcoming nature, sympathetic understanding, and emotional closeness.Emotional well-being in this study refers to the satisfaction of the spiritual activities and leisure activities perceived by the destination residents, which are affected by tourism, and are measured with their satisfaction with their spiritual activities and leisure activities.345 respondents in Jinan are surveyed to collect data. Then SPSS and AMOS are used to test the structural equation model. The results confirmed the above six hypotheses, indicating that the residents’emotional solidarity significantly positively influences the emotional well-being.The degree of closeness between residents and tourists affected the spiritual and leisure well-being of residents.Residents’sympathetic understanding with tourists can enrich their cultural vision and cultural life, and then affect their spiritual and leisure well-being.The welcome nature of residents to tourists can contribute to their own spiritual well-being and leisure well-being.In theory, this study uses emotional solidarity as an independent variable to analyze its impact on emotional well-being.It not only provides empirical support for explaining the emotional well-being of destination residents, but also responds to Woosnam’s call for"testing emotional solidarity to predict the quality of life of residents"and has examined the applicability of the theory in the Asian context. In practice, this study may be useful for DMO and policy-makers via improving the emotional solidarity between residents and tourists, which is very important for the competitiveness and sustainable development of Jinan tourism,in favor of Jinan"Quan"brand development.Of course, there are some limitations in this study. The survey of this study was conducted in Jinan so it is hard to make the results generalized.Firstly, our model is expected to be tested in other contexts, such as urban destinations.Secondly, this study is cross-sectional study,so it would be better if a longitude study could be made.In addition,in different stages of tourism development, residents’emotional solidarity with tourists varies, but this variable is not included in this study. We suggest the development stage should be added as a moderator variable in the future. Finally, this study only examines the influence of emotional solidarity on emotional well-being,however,community attachment and other variables may also be helpful to explain residents’well-being.
