摘要
张炜是中国当代产量最丰富、创作成就最高的本土作家之一,在中国文学史上有着不可忽视的地位,然而他在英语世界传播的小说却寥寥无几。本文基于张炜小说在英语世界的传播事实,借用社会学理论体系中“资本”的概念,分析作家本人对出版社赞助/运作模式和译者翻译过程的资本介入,探究张炜小说在英语世界译介效果的成因。研究发现,在“还原民族性和本土性”“翻译故事还要翻译语言”等要求下,作家张炜从版权输出合同签订,到原文本甄选,再到对译者选择、译程把控直至最后的译文审校鉴定,都有绝对的操纵。这使得其作品译介迟缓,甚至相当一部分译介项目半途而废,无缘读者,因此张炜小说在英语世界的影响始终有限。以上结论可以作为审视中国文学融入世界文学场域的镜鉴,为中国文学“走出去”这一议题提供启发。
As one of the most productive,recognized contemporary writers in China,Zhang Wei is highly important in Chinese literary history.However,he is much less influential in English-speaking countries with limited translations.Through the lens of Bourdieu’s capital theory,this paper explores Zhang Wei’s capital manipulation in the interaction between him as the original writer and his foreign publishers and translators.It reveals that Zhang Wei is deeply involved with his capitals in every step of the translation and publication of his works,including publication contracting,source text selection,translator selection,translation standard setting,and proofreading.The finding can account to a great extent for the limited influence of Zhang Wei’s works in English-speaking countries,and herein give a special perspective to examine China's Literature Going-Out program.
