摘要
20世纪初,为改造国民性,蔡元培从教育层面提出"以美育代宗教说"。该主张一经提出便走出单纯美学的领域,在多重层面引起强烈反响,时至今日依旧争论不断。然而,重思蔡元培美育思想的百年历程,之所以引发各种争执,在于伴随着"以美育代宗教说"的提出,"美育如何获得取代宗教的可能性""美育如何获得取代宗教的必要性"以及"以何种方式来落实审美教育"三条不同思路的论争既由不同的视角所引发,又在本质上有着内在的相关性。剥离层层纠缠,揭示各自的源起,不仅消弭纷争,而且在三条思路的关联中呈现蔡元培美育思想的深层意旨:通过情感陶冶这一特殊方式,审美教育指向的是人性教化与心灵培育。正是这一点使蔡元培的主张穿过救亡图存的时代语境,在素质教育与通识教育两个层面彰显其当代意义。
At the beginning of the 20 th century, in order to improve the national character, Cai Yuanpei put forward the theory of "replacing religion with aesthetic education" from the educational level. Once it was proposed, it aroused strong repercussions and has been controversial ever since. According to Cai Yuanpei’s thoughts on aesthetic education over the century, it can be learned that together with Cai’s theory of "replacing religion with aesthetic education", debates on three aspects of this theory, namely "the possibility of aesthetic education to replace religion", "the necessity of aesthetic education to replace religion" and "the way to implement aesthetic education", different in perspectives, but intrinsically related, brought about a variety of arguments. Based on the further exploration on the three aspects of the theory, the following conclusion can be drawn: the significance of "replacing religion with aesthetic education" lies in that aesthetic education presents the inner essence of humanization and spiritual cultivation through the special way of emotional cultivation, which endows Cai Yuanpei’s proposition with contemporary significance in quality education and general education through the context of saving the nation from subjugation.
