摘要
近期有学者著文提出英国萨尔特伦宅邸一幅用于装饰墙面的纸本画,存在大概率并不是对某处园林实景的描绘,而是对民间流传画本的改造与重组。针对这一说法,对该画作相关信息进行重新考证和分析,通过文之辩、技之辩和园之辩,认为前文推论的相关证据并不充分。围绕这场学术之辩,不仅得出了“正方辩题”—这幅岭南园林图像为真实的行商园林写照;还厘清了准确的中国壁纸在欧洲国家的发展脉络和风格演变;并发现了行商园林的新特点—短园墙。
Some scholars in the recent years argued that the paper painting used to decorate the wall of the Saltron Residence in Britain probably depicts not the real scene of a garden but the tra nsformation and reorganization of popular paintings.In response to this statement,this paper re-examines and analyzes the relevant information of the painting,and claims the said argument is short of evidence through an analysis of the text,artistic techniques and garden arrangement.Hinging on the academic debate,this paper maintains this painting represents a real Lingnan garden,and clarifies the trajectory of development and stylistic evolution of the Chinese wallpaper in European countries,revealing a new feature of merchants’ gardens-the short garden wall.
