The two mound tombs(M1 and M5) at Xincun on Huqiu Road in Suzhou have been identified by scholars as belonging to the royal family of the Wu Kingdom, which, however, lacks solid evidence.By examining the details of the excavation and the related historical materials, this paper argues that“the Marquis of Wu”inscribed on the bricks found in M5 refer to Wu Zuan, the Marquis of Duting, and that the occupant of M1 is certainly not Sun Ce. The possibility that the two occupants came from two different families cannot be ruled out.
