The liver is thelargest internal organ that has vital roles in manyprocesses,includingdigestion,detoxification,immunity,metabolism,bloodclotting,andironstorage.Itis susceptible to many pathological conditions that result in liver diseases.Liver cancer,ranking sixth in cancer incidence,isthefourthmostcommoncauseofcancer-related deathworldwideandis thesecondmost lethal cancerafter pancreatic cancer.1The 5-year survival rate is 18%.2 Unfortunately,liver cancer barely responds to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
